Electrical/Instrument Technician

Job Overview:

Seeking a highly skilled and experienced electrical/instrumentation technician to oversee the company’s pipeline and terminal electrical and instrumentation infrastructure. This position will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation and reliability of the company electrical, instrumentation and operational technology systems. This position requires a deep understanding of power and electrical systems, controls and automation systems as well as the installation, calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of general instrumentation.

Key Responsibilities:         

  • Install maintain and oversee repair of electrical systems, circuits and equipment. Perform routine inspections and testing of electrical systems to ensure they are functioning correctly in accordance with industry and safety standards.
  • Install, test, calibrate, and configure various instruments, including pressure, temperature, flow, level, and sundry analog or digital devices.  Perform inspections, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of related systems to ensure optimal functionality and prevent operational downtime.
  • Diagnose electrical and instrument malfunctions, replace faulty parts, and repair equipment as necessary to ensure reliable operations while maintaining accurate records of all work orders and project. Prepare detailed reports and recommendations for management regarding electrical and instrument performance and improvements.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and industry codes including those promulgated under OSHA, NEC, ISA, NFPA, ASTM and API. Participate in safety meetings, oversee onsite contractors and ensure a safe work environment to prevent incidents and near misses.
  • Drive continuous improvement by developing and implementing best inspection, maintenance and service processes and procedures to maximize electrical and instrumentation reliability and operational efficiency.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • High school diploma required. Technical diploma, certifications or apprenticeship in electrical,  instrumentation or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry as an electrician or instrument technician.
  • Strong knowledge of power distribution, control systems, and instrumentation (e.g., variable frequency drives, programmable logic controllers, remote terminal units).
  • Experience with safety instrumentation systems (SIS), hazardous area classifications and proper equipment selection is required.  
  • Hands-on experience with electrical testing equipment, diagnostic tools, and troubleshooting techniques (e.g., multimeters, loop testers, calibrators).
  • Problem solving skills with attention to detail and ability to work independently.  
  • Proficient in reading technical manuals, electrical schematics and data sheets.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and project management skills.

Physical Demands:

  • This role is a field position and will require travel to remote sites, irregular working hours and callouts as needed. Flexibility in working hours is expected especially during emergency response situations.
  • Must be able to work in challenging environmental conditions including extreme temperatures, inclement weather and potential exposure to hazardous conditions and materials.
