Pipeline and Terminal Operator

Job Overview:

Seeking an experienced and highly skilled pipeline and terminal operator. This position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of various pipelines and terminal facilities. This includes overseeing the receipt, storage, and delivery of refined products, while ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards. The operator will work to maintain the operational integrity of equipment, monitor systems, and respond to emergencies or operational issues as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and monitor various components of pipeline and terminal systems (e.g., valves, pumps, control systems) for the transportation of petroleum, chemicals, or other liquid products.
  • Ensure pipelines are operating efficiently and safely, adhering to all company policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct regular inspections of pipeline infrastructure, identifying and reporting any potential issues or risks.
  • Maintain accurate records of pipeline and terminal activities, including pressures, flow rates, inventory tracking, and product handling/sampling.
  • Perform routine inspections, troubleshoot, and resolve operational issues with pipeline and terminal equipment. Report any equipment malfunctions or system failures and coordinate repairs, as necessary.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, ensuring a safe working environment for all employees, contractors, visitors, and the public at large.
  • Monitor and maintain environmental compliance, reporting any spills or leaks immediately. Follow emergency response procedures in the event of a spill, leak, or other accidents.
  • Participate in safety drills, training programs, and safety meetings as required.
  • Complete required daily, weekly, and monthly reports for management and regulatory compliance. Ensure all work orders, safety checks, and maintenance activities are properly documented.
  • Collaborate with other team members, supervisors, and departments to ensure smooth pipeline and terminal operations. Provide guidance to less experienced team members and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Education:
    • High School Diploma or equivalent required. Technical certifications or a degree in a science related field preferred.
  • Experience:
    • At least 5 years of experience in liquid pipeline and terminal operations is required.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Familiarity with various control systems (e.g., pressure/temperature monitors, liquid level indicators, valve position indicators)
    • Ability to operate and troubleshoot pipeline and terminal equipment.
  • Certifications:
    • OSHA or other safety certifications may be required (e.g., HAZWOPER, first aid, CPR).
    • Experience with environmental compliance standards is an advantage.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including working outdoors in all weather conditions.
    • Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy objects and equipment (up to 50 pounds).
    • Must be able to work at heights, climb ladders, and enter confined spaces when required.
  • Skills & Abilities:
    • Strong attention to detail and a high standard of safety.
    • Good troubleshooting and critical thinking skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Ability to operate and understand various computer systems for monitoring and control.
  • Working Conditions:
    • Work may involve rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
    • Must be able to respond to emergencies and operational issues at any time.
    • On-call duties required during emergency situations.
